We Could Use a Man Like Sheriff Lobo Again
The Milwaukee County Sheriff's Office posted a meme on its Facebook page Thursday featuring a picture of a man who accused Sheriff David Clarke of abuse of power. The image says, "Cheer up snowflake ... if Sheriff Clarke were to really mess with you, you wouldn't be around to whine about it." The post also says, "Sheriff Clarke regrets that he cannot attend this juvenile, leftist, anti-cop tantrum. He is pleased that he has their attention however. The sheriff is in Washington to witness the swearing in of our next President Donald J. Trump as we embark on a mission to MakeAmericaGreatAgain!" That part of the post was made in reference to an email from Fox6 News to Clarke asking for a response to a news conference held Thursday afternoon by a group protesting the remarks Clarke made Wednesday on Facebook, which said, "Next time he or anyone else pulls this stunt on a plane they may get knocked out. The sheriff said he does not have to wait for some goof to assault him. He reserves the reasonable right to pre-empt a possible assault." Riverwest resident Dan Black filed a formal complaint Tuesday with the county, alleging that sheriff's deputies interrogated him and treated him "like a criminal" at Mitchell International Airport after a conversation he had with Clarke while on board a flight from Dallas on Sunday. "I saw an older man in first class who looked like Sheriff Clarke, but I could not be sure as he was dressed in Dallas Cowboys gear and wasn't wearing his signature cowboy hat. As I passed him, I asked if he was Sheriff Clarke, and he responded in the affirmative. I shook my head as I was moving on to my seat near the back of the plane. From behind, he asked if I had a problem. I shook my head 'no' again and continued to my seat," Black said Tuesday. No more words were exchanged between the two men for the duration of the flight, but Black said he saw Clarke again immediately after walking off the plane. Clarke was waiting for him with six uniformed deputies and two K-9s, Black said. Milwaukee County Executive Chris Abele confirmed auditors from the county ethics office were at the airport Thursday investigating Black's formal complaint against Clarke for abuse of power. But those who support Clarke said without witnessing the confrontation on the plane it's hard to know what really happened between the two men. County Supervisor Dan Sebring said Clarke has every right to defend himself. "You can bet your bottom dollar if the sheriff felt threatened, he would take what he believed was appropriate action," Sebring said. Black's attorney, William Sulton sent a statement Thursday night saying, "Citizens should be able to complain about public officials without fear of retaliation. Sheriff Clarke's statements are coldly calculated to intimidate Mr. Black with physical violence for engaging in Constitutionally protected activity. Law enforcement simply do not have license to beat up citizens for whatever perceived slight. Mr. Black will preemptively stop Sheriff Clarke's attacks with the full force of the legal system. In addition to protecting Mr. Black's rights, we will work to ensure that Mr. Black is safe from the dangers caused by Sheriff Clarke's promotion of violence." WISN 12 News Patrick Paolantonio saw Clarke in Washington, D.C. Thursday night, ahead of Friday's inauguration. "Hi Sheriff. Can I ask you a question?" Paolantonio asked. "Make America great again," Clarke said. "Can we ask you what happened on the airplane?" Paolantonio asked. "Make America great again," Clarke said. "We just want to get your side of the story," Paolantonio said. "Looking forward to it," Clarke said.
